Il modello originale di Gibson Les Paul risale ai primi anni del 1950 quando la Gibson Guitar Corporation per tenere testa alla Fender, che aveva iniziato a produrre la Telecaster, ingaggia il chitarrista Jazz Les Paul come consulente per progettare il proprio modello di chitarra solidbody.

Sembra però che Les Paul si sia limitato a firmare il modello e a dare qualche consiglio tecnico per migliorare un prototipo interamente progettato dalla Gibson, in ogni caso il risultato è quello che noi tutti conosciamo.

Ecco le principali varianti del modello originale:

• Les Paul Special (1955-1960)
• Les Paul Standard (1958-1960, 1968-2008)

Scavando nei meandri di youtube mi sono imbattuto in Patrick Woods, chitarrista fingerstyle made in USA piuttosto dotato e con un modo particolare di suonare i pezzi percuotendo ipnoticamente la cassa della sua chitarra.

Qui lo sentite suonare il pezzo “Ocean” dal suo ultimo album

Mentre qui lo si vede alle prese con la sua TREBLEBASS guitar, chitarra custom a dieci corde dal suono e dall’aspetto decisamente “spaziali”

Dal 13 al 16 novembre 2008 si terrà al Teatro dell’Arte di Milano (via Alemagna 6) la settima edizione dell’Ah-Um Festival, manifestazione milanese dedicata al jazz italiano contemporaneo.
